Hell Week Update
"You can't say it's special because you were on the defensive end of it," said David Lee
"It's New York, everything is going to be magnified. I'm sure we'll see
this game for the next two years, every day. Reporters will say, 'You
have a five-game winning streak but remember Kobe?'"
I'm missing one of the most eventful weeks of the Knick season so far, sadly, because I am traveling all week and working long hours. But I'm checking the scores and Knick updates from other sources, and so far the Knicks seem to be back to being relegated to a sideshow to the stars coming into the Garden, despite their improving play the last few weeks. Kobe scoring 61 will tend to do that, of course, but it was unfortunate to read multiple accounts of the Knick-Laker game and barely see any substantive discussion of the dynamics of the game itself. And of course, all the focus for tonight's game against the Cavaliers is on the Lebron-Kobe dynamic, and (naturally) Lebron in NY in 2010.
Forgotten is the effort that the Knicks put up against the Pacers last weekend on the road, one of their best road efforts (against a tired but nevertheless improving Indiana team). Sorry I couldn't get my recap up on that before I had to go on my trip, and I will have to provide a recap of the week when I return on Saturday. I'm looking forward to reviewing the games on the DVR and seeing if recent improvements in play have been blunted by simply superior talent (the most likely explanation) or if there has been any regression (I see that Nate reverted to slump form against the Lakers, for example).
Goes without saying that the Knicks will pretty much have to have everything going for them to have a chance against the Cavaliers tonight and Celtics on Friday. Generally, Harrington is able to get his points and Duhon and Lee produce at a high level as well, but there need to be at least one or two other players that contribute at a high level -- Robinson, Chandler, Richardson. The Cavaliers have been a bad matchup all season (possibly the worst for the Knicks among all the NBA teams), so the Knicks will have to bring their play to a level they've rarely reached so far, and hope some Cavaliers are having an off night.
Back at the end of the week...thanks for checking in.
